I don’t wear a ton of makeup, but it isn’t often that I leave the house wearing none at all. Even if it’s just some mascara, makeup has admittedly become a routine part of my Adult Lady Beauty Regimen that my mama told me I’d have one day. But even though I don’t wear very much at a time generally, I still manage to go through my fair share of concealer, blush and spackle eyeliner over time. For a not-so-lovely visual of just how much makeup women cake on their faces ever year, take a gander at “Natural Beauty.” Over nine hours, two makeup artists slathered 365 coats of makeup on the model.
From Nowness: “Magic ingredients: Seven bottles of Foundation S103; two bottles of Creamy Eyes E107; three Milky Lips L205 pens; and two bottles of Blush S301. All together 228.40ml of makeup.”
While slopping on all that foundation is icky to watch, I was more concerned with how much money we’re dishing out for the stuff. In a nutshell, ladies, a lot. Over at the Daily Mail, we have a survey calculating that women plunk down more than $14,300 on cosmetics over a lifetime. The Gloss also referenced a YWCA report on the beauty industry, which tallied up the makeup total to $100 per month. Just imagine all of the shoes a gal could buy with that kind of dough!
